One new and one familiar face will take leadership roles in District 202 schools.

The Board of Education at its Wednesday, March 25, 2026, business meeting approved hiring Dr. Mike Romeli as the next principal of Heritage Grove Middle School and Patrick Graff as the next principal at Wallin Oaks Elementary School.

Both will start their new roles on July 1.

Romeli is currently an assistant principal at Plainfield East High School and has spent his entire academic career at PEHS.

He worked as a campus monitor, coach, and teacher before becoming an assistant principal in 2018.

Heritage Grove Middle School is built on dedication, teamwork, and a deep commitment to students, Romeli said.

“I look forward to creating a school environment where students feel safe, supported, challenged, and proud to belong,” he added.

Romeli is stepping into this role with a proven track record of leadership and a vibrant personality that inspires everyone, said Shannon Miller-Finlayson, Director of Administration and Personnel for Middle Schools for District 202.

“Having previously made a significant impact at the high school level, Dr. Romeli brings a deep dedication to our organization and a unique understanding of our students’ journey,” she said.

Graff joins District 202 from Bower Elementary School in Warrenville, where he is currently the school’s assistant principal.

He began his career as an elementary school teacher. Graff has also served as a dean of students.

Wallin Oaks stands out as a school community that values relationships, collaboration, and high student expectations, he said.

“I’m excited by the opportunity to build on that foundation by supporting teachers, engaging families, and ensuring that every student feels known, challenged, and supported,” Graff said.

Graff’s energy and proactive leadership stood out during the interview process, said Dr. Scott Fink, Director of Administration and Personnel for Elementary Schools for District 202.

“We are thrilled to welcome him to the district and are confident that his positivity will be a driving force for the Wallin Oaks learning community,” Fink said.
